Mehndi atau lebih kita kenali sebagai inai bagi masyarakat di Malaysia adalah temporary decoration on hands and feet. Mehndi sebenarnya design inai yng dipanggil bagi masyarakat di India manakala masyarakat Arab pula memanggilnya Henna.

Jikalau di India, pakistan dan Arab, dekorasi mehndi/henna/inai adalah perkara yang penting dalam majlis perkahwinan, tetapi di Malaysia, it is not a compulsory thing to do, but a must for Indian brides. Normally, masyarakat Melayu hanya mengenakan dibahagian hujung jari sahaja.

Di India dan Arab,art form of mehndi/henna adalah berbeza dan mempunyai maksud yang berbeza mengikiut budaya dan keagamaan mereka seperti melambangkan kesihatan, kesuburan,spiritual dan lain-lain. Orang Arab kebiasaannya menggunakan design yang simple dan besar mempunyai corak yang berbunga, manakala bagi orang India pula, corak mereka adalah lebih compleks dan menggunakan banyak garisan-garisan halus, berbunga dan paisley yang menyelaputi seluruh tangan dan tapak tangan mereka. Mereka akan menggunakan simbol-simbol tertentu seperti burung merak bagi mereka yang bukan beragama Islam.
